Burgers with Bruce
Back By Popular Demand! You are invited to join VBA President and CEO Bruce Whitehurst for a burger and conversations about the latest industry updates. Six Burgers with Bruce events will be held around the state, one in each of the six regions of the EBL.
Commercial Banking School
Developed in partnership with the University of Richmond Robins School of Business, this one week school is designed to provide comprehensive training, allowing banks the opportunity to build bench strength within their commercial banking division.
Application Starts at the School!: During the week, participants will have an opportunity to apply what they have learned through group exercises where they will analyze a realistic loan request, consider the important decision factors, outline recommendations and then, on Friday, deliver their group’s recommended course of action to a panel of bankers.
Virtual Advanced Commercial Lending School
This workshop is a “sequel” to the Commercial Lending School and is best taken after completion of that course, though it is not a prerequisite. This workshop dives deeper into topics covered in basic course: analyzing a borrower’s balance sheet, income statement, collateral, and risk ratings. It also includes a case study created specifically for this class that will help the learners to apply the concepts presented.
Virtual Commercial Lending School
Commercial banking can be intimidating because of its complexity and the risk-oriented nature of the work. This course is a clear and thorough introduction to the key concepts, terminology, and processes involved in credit and lending. It doesn’t assume much prior knowledge of the topic, so it’s ideal for those in their first year in the industry. Learners will walk away with a clear understanding of their job and how their specific role fits into the bank’s overall profitability goals.
Treasury Management Symposium
This in-person program will provide participants with Treasury Management product and service perspectives to aid in business retention, expansion & acquisition.
MBA/VBA Joint Convention

To be held on June 2-5, the 2024 MBA|VBA Joint Convention will take place at The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island in Florida. The 2024 event will combine a great lineup of speakers on timely topics and networking with bankers and industry providers.
