VBA Banker Day Header

Thank you for registering for the 22nd Annual VBA Banker Day on January 13th, 2022. We look forward to your participation in this important grassroots advocacy event, bringing hundreds of bankers from across Virginia to interact with their state legislators at the start of the 2022 Virginia General Assembly. Banker Day will begin with registration at the Greater Richmond Convention Center at 7:30am. We will have continental breakfast, guest speakers and an issues briefing from VBA staff. After, you will walk to the Pocahontas Building, the legislative office building, a few blocks from the Convention Center to meet with your legislators.

Planning Your Day

Whether it is your first time, or you are a returning participant, here are some helpful dos and don’ts to ensure your Banker Day experience is a success.

Now that you have registered, you or a representative from your bank is responsible for setting meetings with the local legislators you would like to meet with during Banker Day. We recommend reaching out to your legislators at their district offices or via email prior to the end of the year to request a meeting. Meetings should ideally be set between 9:00am and 11:30am. VBA has contacted legislators to make them aware you will be reaching out to schedule visits. Please note that some individual legislators may have health and safety requirements for in-person meetings, including mask requirements, proof of vaccination or a recent negative test. We recommend asking about such health and safety requirements when scheduling your meetings.

Please follow the steps below for setting up a meeting with your legislator:

  1. You can find the names of your state legislators to help determine who to schedule your visits with here.
  2. Once you figure out which legislators you want to meet with, you can find their contact information here. The VBA staff is also able to assist in connecting you with other local bankers attending Banker Day, in order to consolidate meetings for the legislators who have multiple groups of bankers attending the event.
  3. Download a Customizable Email Template for Scheduling Legislator Appointments Here!
  4. Keep the VBA informed of your Banker Day plans! Once you have finalized your meeting times, please complete this form to share that information with the VBA.

Tips for Visits

It is a ½ mile walk to the Pocahontas Building from the Greater Richmond Convention Center and you must go through security at the Public Entrance on Main Street. Please allow enough time before your first legislative meeting.

If you have made an advance appointment, you should be able to see your Senator or Delegate at the appointed hour. If you have not made an appointment, go to the office and tell them you are a constituent from the district and would like to see the Delegate or the Senator. If you are told he or she is not in, ask if there is a time you can come back prior to your departure time. Otherwise ask if you can go to the Committee meeting that your legislator may be in and give you an opportunity to speak to him or her briefly. You can also ask to meet with the legislative aide to discuss your bank and our key issues. See section above for more information about scheduling your Banker Day visits.

If you have any questions on how you should prepare for your meeting with your legislator, you can access some helpful dos and don’ts here. For further questions, please contact Heather Derflinger at heather@vabankers.org.

Safety Protocols

Face Mask

First and foremost, our #1 priority is ensuring the safety of all: attendees, sponsors, speakers, staff and hotel personnel.  Since the pandemic began, the VBA has followed the recommendations and directives from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and Governor Northam and we will continue to do so for this event.

At this time, and based on CDC guidelines, the VBA recommends the following:

  • Unvaccinated persons wear a face covering and socially distance at all times during the VBA Banker Day, except that the face covering can be removed when eating or drinking;
  • Fully vaccinated persons wear a face covering indoors during VBA Banker Day events, except that the face covering can be removed when eating or drinking.

While we strongly encourage all attendees to follow CDC guidance, we cannot guarantee that all will do so. Please also note that, during presentations, you will be seated in crescent rounds of four people per table. Please contact Matt Bruning with any questions or concerns or if you need additional space during the presentations.

We will continue to track the latest guidance and requirements from government officials regarding mask-wearing, space capacity, and social distancing and will provide you with updates as necessary.

Dietary Restrictions, Special Needs & Americans with Disabilities Notice

Please send any dietary restrictions or special needs that may affect your participation in this event to Cindy Beazley to discuss accommodations.

Share Your Banker Day Pictures with the VBA!

Please remember to take photos of your group with your legislator(s). Submit them to Monica McDearmon by email (mcdearmon@vabankers.org) or by text (804-363-9347) so we can highlight our advocacy efforts in future VBA publications.
