Grassroots
Grassroots
Success on the legislative front largely depends on the efforts of VBA member bankers. Each year, thousands of Virginia Bankers participate in the VBA’s grassroots efforts from Legislative Meetings and Banker Day to the ABA/VBA Washington Summit and VBA BankPAC. But there is always more to be done. It’s important for bankers to stay involved in grassroots in order to continue to advance the legislative agenda.
Take Action Now!
Occasionally, the VBA sends Call to Action alerts (CTAs) on issues of extreme importance to the banking industry. The CTAs are sent to urge bankers to contact their legislators to let them know the position of the industry. There is strength in numbers, and the more bankers that contact their legislators through CTAs, the better. Click the button to sign up for VBA Call to Action alerts.
Who is My Elected Official?
It’s important to stay engaged with the elected officials who represent you. Do you have a relationship with yours? Find their information and contact them today.
Banker Advocates
Anyone can be an advocate for the banking industry. Advocacy doesn’t have to be a full-time job. See how you can be an banker advocate in as little as two minutes.
Legislator Key Contact Program. Share with VBA any existing relationships you have with elected officials in Virginia – ensuring that the VBA has the right bankers, like yourself, at the table with the legislators you know best during critical policy discussions. Get started by filling out the VBA Key Contact Form.
Gubernatorial Boards. Each year the Governor makes appointments to more than 300 State Boards, including several that affect the banking industry. Each board plays an important role, and it is beneficial to have bankers serve in this process. You can view a complete list, and if you are interested in serving, let the VBA know.
Commissions, Committees, and Councils. After the General Assembly adjourns each year, state legislators still convene to discuss issues that need year-round attention or continue policy conversations that started during the previous session. There are opportunities to serve, monitor, or provide input over the course of these meetings on a range of issues. If you are interested in participating, review the complete list here and contact the VBA.
